Want to know an iPhone’s average lifespan? If you clicked on this article, chances are that you have an old iPhone that you want to use for as long as it’s running. Or, you are planning to buy a brand-new iPhone but thinking if spending a bomb on one is worth it or not for the long term. You are in the right place. By the end of this article, you will know how many years your iPhone may run in good condition.
Apple’s iPhones have always been in talks for their expensive price tag. And not many think that iPhones are worth their price since they may not last longer. But that’s otherwise. iPhones tend to last for long years, provided that you use them carefully.
The age of an iPhone can be determined by considering several factors.
Launch timeline
If your iPhone is more recent, it should work in good condition for a long time. So if you bought an iPhone 15 recently, it may work for a long time. If you own an old iPhone 13, it may have only a few years left.
Updates
The most important factor that determines your iPhone is the update cycle. Apple offers five years of OS and security updates to iPhones. A 5-year-old iPhone 11, which was launched with iOS 13, still runs the latest update i.e. iOS 17. So if you buy a brand new iPhone today, you should be good till 2028 on the software bit. Apple also pushes security updates and as long as you update your device, it should run well.
However, updates are not the only part that determines your iPhone’s age. There are also other factors like battery health.
Battery health
Apple introduced the Battery health feature sometime back on iPhones. The feature shows the health of the battery in your iPhone. The feature can be accessed from Settings. Battery health determines when you can change the battery. If you are careless with charging, your iPhone’s battery health may go down to 80 percent or below in less than 2 years. If that’s the case, your iPhone may not work at its full potential. However, a battery replacement can help restore the almost full potential of your device.
Device Usage
One of the other main factors that will determine your iPhone’s age is how you use it. If you are a rough user who does not care much about the phone i.e. charges it anytime, drops it unknowingly several times, and does not protect it with a case or skin – your iPhone may not work longer. If you are careful while charging your iPhone and are a case or skin person, and do not drop phones accidently, then physically, your phone may last longer.
As you can see, not any one or two factors determine your iPhone’s age. The physical usage of your iPhone, battery health, updates, and the launch timeline, all can be considered to determine how long your iPhone may run.
To give a general answer, iPhones can last for 4-5 five years in decent condition. They can work in good condition for 2-3 years if used carefully. If you are too careful with your iPhone, you can use it for as long as it lasts, that’s more than five years, and perhaps use it as a standby device or a car dashcam. So the conclusion is that iPhones tend to last longer so they might be worth your investment. If you get bored with phones quickly, the value for money factor with iPhones may not stay.
