WhatsApp started the payment feature in the Indian market and it is now gearing up to make the same more convenient. New reports have suggested that the Meta-owned instant messaging application is soon going to add UPI functionality for Indian users. This will allow the users to trigger transactions without entering the PIN. This feature is going to be a boon for low-value transactions. The UPI Lite integration was reported by Android Authority in the WhatsApp beta app version 2.25.5.17. The code of the update consists of several strings that suggest the inclusion of UPI Lite functionality. This will allow quick payments in case the servers are busy. And yes, the users will also be able to carry out transactions in a single click without experiencing any failures. Code strings related to the beta version also showed that the users might be able to add money as well as withdraw it anytime from the instant messaging platform. One thing that the users should know is that the feature will be only enabled on a particular phone and not on all the devices connected to the account. This feature is going to be an addition to the already available UPI portfolio with which the users can do both, instant messaging and carrying out payments. Apart from that, it has also been said that WhatsApp is working on new features through which the users will be able to pay mobile recharge, electricity bills, rent payments, postpaid landline bills, water, and a lot more. As for UPI Lite, it is an application created by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) that works on the UPI ecosystem protocol. It is focused on conducting low-value transactions, especially below Rs 500 linked to a user’s mobile number.
