It has been officially confirmed that Instagram is now testing a feature that will let users dislike comments on reels and posts. Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri revealed that the feature is being worked on the improve the experience of the users and give them more options to express their opinions.
Mosseri said in an official statement that some of the users may have noticed that the platform has added a new button to Instagram comments that will let the users express their dissatisfaction to a particular comment. As of now, there will be no dislike count and that is just a test. But yes, the dislike will be used to signal comment ranking so all the negative comments can be ranked down. He concluded his statement by saying that with this, the platform wants to make comments more welcoming for the users.
The dislike button will be available on both reels and the feed of the users. However, they will be unable to see any kind of dislike count. Previously, Instagram allowed users to like comments but now they will also be able to dislike the ones made in bad taste. As stated by TechCrunch, Meta has said that this test will be working to enhance the quality of comment sections in different posts and reels.
In parallel news, the platform is also working on an Edits application that will be similar to what we got to see in the case of Capcut. With this step, Instagram is looking to make the processing of editing user-friendly. With the app, Instagram is expecting to see growth in the number of creators on the platform. That being said, we are only two months into 2025 and Instagram is up with some major changes. We can expect the platform to introduce more features in the coming days to make the user experience better.
