Google's latest video generation model, Veo 3, is being expanded to the Gemini application programming interface (API). The expansion will allow developers with Gemini API to access Veo 3 and integrate the model's capabilities into their apps or build entirely new apps. While the feature unlocks more possibilities in video creation, the company is offering the upgrades at a higher price than its predecessor, Veo 2, which may impact frequent usage. Veo 3 Access Now Live for Developers

The announcement was made in a blog post where Google revealed that Veo 3 can now be accessed via the Gemini API. Developers will be able to use the model through Google AI Studio, which also provides a software development kit (SDK) template and a Starter app to help simplify integration. However, it is not available for free-tier users and those with a paid subscription or a valid API key can only enjoy the access. Google Veo 3 Pricing and Features

Google has priced Veo 3 at $0.75 (around Rs 65) per second of video and audio generation. To put it in perspective, creating an 8-second video will cost $6 (roughly Rs 520), while a one-minute video will cost $45 (around Rs 3,900). Comparing it to its predecessor, the Veo 2 was cheaper at $0.5 (around Rs 43) per second. Also Read: Google Android Show announced for May 12: Android 17, Gemini AI and XR - What to expect

Despite the price hike, Veo 3 brings a few improvements to the table. Developers can generate 720p videos at 24 frames per second in 16:9 format. These videos will be accompanied by AI-generated audio, making them lifelike.

Veo 3 Fast Version Coming Soon

Google also mentioned plans to release a more affordable and faster version, named Veo 3 Fast. However, there is no word on the official release date yet. The tech giant says that the faster version will offer cost-efficient options to developers without compromising on core features.

Security Measures in Place

To prevent misuse, every video created with Veo 3 will carry Google's digital watermark, SynthID. This is aimed at curbing misinformation and preventing the creation of deepfakes using AI-generated content.

First introduced at Google I/O 2025, Veo 3 was earlier available only to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Now, with the Gemini API rollout, it's open to a much wider developer base.
