Apple’s Smart Glasses Could Change How You Use Your iPhone And Mac

Looks like Apple's next big wearable might be something you'd actually wear on your face. According to a new report from Bloomberg's Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a new generation of smart glasses that could feature an in-lens display and two operating modes, depending on the device it's connected to.
As per Gurman, the upcoming Apple smart glasses could automatically switch between two different modes - one when connected to a Mac and another when paired with an iPhone.
How will it work?
When linked to a Mac, the glasses might run a full version of visionOS, the same operating system that powers Apple's Vision Pro headset. This would mean users could access a more immersive, productivity-focused interface. But the moment it's paired with an iPhone, it may switch to a lighter, mobile-friendly version of the OS. As per the report, it could be a compact device for checking notifications, navigation, quick interactions, or even visual prompts.
This dual-mode approach sounds like Apple's way of making sure the glasses aren't just a flashy experiment, but something that could actually fit into daily life - whether for work or casual use.
Taking on Meta's Smart Glasses
It's no surprise that Apple's smart glasses are being seen as competition for Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses, which already feature an in-lens display and retail for around $799 (roughly Rs 66,000) in the US.
However, Gurman adds that Apple's first-generation smart glasses might not include an in-lens display just yet. Instead, the initial version could focus on features like built-in speakers for music playback, cameras for photos and videos, voice control via Siri, and maybe even health-tracking tools.
The in-lens display and dual-mode setup are reportedly being planned for a later version - possibly the second generation - once Apple's AR tech matures further.
When to Expect Apple's Smart Glasses
As per Bloomberg's Power On, Apple could announce the first-generation glasses as early as 2026, with a commercial launch in 2027. Apple is constantly working towards its spatial computing - first with the Vision Pro, and now with something lighter and more wearable.
