Snapchat users around the world are having a tough time using the app today (October 20). Many say they were suddenly logged out and can't send or receive messages. The photo-sharing platform appears to be facing a global outage that has disrupted services for thousands.
According to outage tracker Downdetector, reports of problems started surfacing around 12:30 PM IST and peaked at around 1:53 PM with over 7,200 user complaints. Most users say they were logged out of their accounts and can't sign back in. Many also reported seeing a message that reads, "Due to repeated failed attempts or other unusual activity, your access to Snapchat is temporarily disabled. Please try again."
What's Going On With Snapchat?
Data on Downdetector shows that 91% of the issues are linked to login errors, 6% to uploading problems, and 3% to issues with the app's feed. The outage appears to be affecting users in several countries including India, the US, and parts of Europe.
Several users took to X (formerly Twitter) to share screenshots of the error message, wondering whether their accounts were compromised. As of now, Snapchat hasn't made any official comment on the outage or when services will be restored.
AWS Outage May Be Behind the Disruption
Interestingly, Snapchat isn't the only service hit by technical issues today. Roblox, Canva, Amazon, Perplexity AI, Epic Games Store, Fortnite, Among Us, and Clash of Clans have also reported downtime in the same time frame.
Early reports suggest that a major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage could be behind the widespread disruption. Since many popular apps run on AWS for their cloud support, even a brief glitch can cause several online platforms to stop working at once.
As of now, Snapchat services remain patchy, with users continuing to report problems on Downdetector. Snapchat is yet to confirm when things will return to normal.
