Google is finally rolling out native call recording to Pixel phones across the globe a feature Pixel users have been requesting for years. The update is now reaching supported devices through the latest Phone by Google app update and the November Pixel Feature Drop. The company first confirmed the rollout back in September, but most users didn't actually see the feature appear. Now, it's widely showing up for Pixel owners after installing the newest updates. Also Read: Google Pixel 10 gets major price cut on Amazon, drops below Rs 70,000

Which Pixel Phones Support Call Recording?

  • Pixel 6 and newer models
  • Devices running Android 14 or higher
  • Latest Phone by Google app (v198 or newer on stable builds; v200+ on beta builds)
  • Devices with the November Feature Drop installed
  • Users on older Pixels still won't get the feature, even if they manually update the Phone app.

How to Turn On Call Recording

Once updated, Pixel users can enable call recording directly through the Phone app:

  • Settings > Call Assist > Call Recording
  • From here, you can choose between:
  • Manual call recording
  • Automatically recording selected contacts
  • Recording calls from unknown or non-contact numbers
  • After enabling it, a recording button will appear on the call screen.

The first time you record a call, you'll see an explainer about Google's handling of recordings and the required notification sent to the other party.

A Feature That Took Years To Arrive

Interestingly, many Android phones using the Google Phone app have had call recording for years. But Pixel models-ironically, Google's own phones-were left out.

That gap is finally closing. The rollout now makes call recording available on every supported Pixel starting from the Pixel 6, catching up with features already available on other Android devices.

Google is also expanding Call Notes, which now works internationally on Pixel 9 and newer models in regions like Australia, Canada, the U.K., Ireland, and Japan. The feature even integrates with Android Auto, making it easier to save important details without taking your hands off the wheel.
