WhatsApp is adding plenty of new features to the messaging app with a new update. Among the many, the Meta-owned platform is rolling out support for Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android allowing users to send short, animated clips with sound. For those unfamiliar, Live Photos (iOS) and Motion Photos (Android) capture a few seconds before and after you press the shutter button, creating a mini video instead of a static shot. Until now, these were either converted to videos or sent as standard images on WhatsApp, stripping away the movement. With this update, users can now share them in their original form. How to Share Live Photos on WhatsApp (iOS)

  • Open WhatsApp and head to the chat where you want to share.
  • Tap the "+" icon and select Photo & Video Library.
  • Choose a Live Photo from your gallery.
  • When the preview appears, tap the LIVE badge at the top left to ensure it's being sent as a Live Photo.
  • Hit send, and your contact will receive it with sound and motion.
  • How to Share Motion Photos on WhatsApp (Android)

  • Open WhatsApp and go to the desired chat.
  • Tap the attachment (paperclip) icon and select Gallery.
  • Pick a Motion Photo from your camera roll.
  • Make sure the motion toggle is turned on in the preview.
  • Send it, and the recipient will see the moving photo as intended.
  • This new feature is part of a new WhatsApp update, which adds a bunch of new features including AI-generated chat themes, call backgrounds, new sticker packs, document scanning for Android, and easier group search. For photo lovers, Live and Motion Photo sharing support might just be the most exciting addition.
