If Instagram or Facebook suddenly stopped working for you this evening, then know you weren't alone! Thousands of users reported issues across the US and India. According to Downdetector, the outage-detecting platform, complaints started rising sharply late Tuesday evening (around 8 PM), suggesting that the problem isn't limited to one region. Instagram appears to be the worst affected, as almost 50% reported problem with the app, while the rest faces issues with server connection and feed/timeline. Users were unable to open profiles or send messages. Facebook has also seen a spike in complaints, although the number of reports is lower compared to Instagram. Downdetector data shows that Instagram recorded nearly 6,000 reports in the US during the outage. In India, reports also jumped, crossing 200 complaints within a short period. Many users said the app stopped loading properly, while others faced issues with Direct Messages, Stories and feeds. Some also reported that profiles were not loading as expected.

The outage graphs show that reports remained largely normal throughout the day before suddenly shooting up.

Facebook Down too

Facebook users also reported problems around the same time. In the US, Downdetector logged over 1,000 complaints, while India recorded more than 150 reports. Users mainly flagged issues with the app and website, while some also said comments and Messenger weren't working properly.

No response from Meta yet

Meta has not officially acknowledged the outage so far or shared what may have caused it. There is also nothing at the moment to suggest that the disruption is linked to a cyberattack or a security issue. If Instagram or Facebook isn't working on your device, there's little you can do from your end. Since the issue appears to be server-side, repeatedly logging in, changing your password or reinstalling the app is unlikely to fix it.

For now, you will have to wait until Meta restores the services.
