ISRO to launch INSAT-3DS satellite today: Top things to know

ISRO will today launch its new meteorological satellite called INSAT-3DS aboard the GSLV-F14 spacecraft.

The lift-off is scheduled to take place at 5.35 pm from Sriharikota.

The INSAT-3DS will help enhance meteorological observations and monitor land and ocean surfaces for weather prediction better.

Through close monitoring, the INSAT-3DS will also help in sending alerts for natural disasters, such as floods and cyclones.

The satellite will work alongside existing satellites such as INSAT-3D and INSAT-3DR.

The INSAT-3DS will offer the vertical profile of various meteorological paramters of the atmosphere.

The satellite aims to collect and disseminate data from the data collection platforms (DCPs).

The GSLV-F14 spacecraft is often called naughty boy because of its high failure rate.
