How to spot fake e-challan messages almost instantly

Most of us have been fined for violating traffic rules for at least once since we learned how to drive.

Unlike before, smart cameras installed at popular crossroads and spots spot violators and automatically issue an e-challan for an amount associated with the violation.

You may also find traffic policemen capturing your vehicle's number plate to issue an e-challan after you have apparently broken traffic rules.

Your city's RTO will send text messages to remind you of these e-challans and urge you to pay them timely.

However, a new scam is currently rampant, targeting victims with texts on e-challans but with malicious links.

You can easily spot if the message is fake by noticing the sender's number or the link in the message.

For instance, the e-challan's genuine website is echallan.parivahan.gov.in. So, anything other than this is fake.

You can also log into the e-challan portal to check if you have a pending e-challan before you fall for fake messages.
